10 Most Underrated Cover Songs In Hard Rock

7. God Save The Queen - Motorhead

Most hard rock bands would kill for the attitude that Motorhead puts into their music. From day one, every single one of their tracks had the brash energy of rock and roll that radiated from frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Rather than cover the blues material they all loved, the idea for the band to take on the punk hierarchy almost made too much sense.

Coming off the band's aptly titled We Are Motorhead, their take on the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen" may even be better than the original. While the Pistols' original was a scathing indictment of the British government in the 70's, Motorhead's version gave this song a greater sonic punch with some of the most feral guitar sounds that had ever been seen in rock and roll. Even though Johnny Rotten may be known as the unofficial King of the Punks, the gutteral snarl that Lemmy lends to this tune makes Rotten seem like a proper schoolboy by comparison.

Motorhead may have had 2 full decades under their belt, but this track proved they hadn't lost a single shred of their trademark aggression. This album may not have gotten the love of something like Ace of Spades, but this one tune is more than worth the price of admission.
