10 Most Underrated David Bowie Songs

7. Fantastic Voyage (1979)

One of Bowie's most underrated songs provides the soulful opening to one of his most underrated albums. Much has been written about Bowie in the seventies, but when he released Lodger in 1979, he capped off a wonderful decade of albums that, to this day, is surpassed only perhaps by that of The Beatles and Bob Dylan's output in the sixties.

The third and final album of his famed Berlin Trilogy, Lodger is a tremendous album that sits on the periphery of his classic run. This could be attributed to the album's lack of an iconic track. The first Berlin album, Low, had Sound And Vision, while the second, Heroes, had the titular classic.

Lodger retains the experimental drive of its predecessors and sees Bowie produce some of the most bizarre tracks of his career, one of which occupies a spot in the upper echelon of this list.

Fantastic Voyage, on the other hand, is one of the shorter ballads of his career, coming in at just under three minutes. It sees Bowie at his crooning finest as he laments the threat of impending nuclear war. Despite the subject matter, it is a beautiful track that provides a serene opening to an otherwise chaotic album. "The calm before the storm" has never quite been so appropriate.
