10 Most Underrated Grunge Albums

9. Meat Puppets II - Meat Puppets

Over the course of grunge's tenure, the Meat Puppets always got the reputation as a bit of a name-drop band. While they never reached the same heights as someone like Pearl Jam, they were always brought up in rock circles of "that one band that never got their due." Though their career trajectory was a bit scattered to say the least, their second outing was actually pretty legit from top to bottom.

Being an almost country leaning affair, most of this album is carried on the strength of more acoustic-based foundations on songs like Aurora Borealis and Lake of Fire. Even with lyrics that sound just the slightest bit goofy, the hooks on here are still pretty different, almost like you're listening to what the Grateful Dead sounded like if they got really into punk rock attitude.

For as much as this album tried (and failed) to register with the public, the right people were listening, with Kurt Cobain calling them one of his all time favorite acts. The honeymoon period for this album ended up coming around as well when some of the Puppets were asked to sit in with Nirvana during their Unplugged performance, where they performed some tunes from this album. And come on, if you've written a song that's good enough to be covered by Nirvana, you know that you're onto something incredible.
