10 Most Underrated Hard Rock Albums Of The 2000's
6. Slash - Slash
As the new millennium dawned, Slash was beginning to feel more like a sideman for famous artists. Even though he had his own musical ventures with Velvet Revolver, most people were just seeing him as the guy who used to be in Guns N Roses that you'd call if you needed a rock guitar in your song. After years of session work, Slash decided to reverse the process and make all the big name acts come to him.
Rather than writing completed songs, Slash's solo debut is a collaborative process between musicians. During the album's development, Slash would be coming up with the skeletons of songs and then get a myriad of singers to come in to provide the lyrics and melody to it. As such, the album features some turns you might not expect from Slash, like the use of Fergie on "Beautiful Dangerous" and actually sqeezing out a good performance out of Adam Levine on "Gotten."
Out of all the great tracks on this record, the addition of Myles Kennedy on "Starlight" and "Back From Cali" proved to be so good that Slash eventually put together an entire solo band with Kennedy out front. The album may be a touch disjointed due to all the different voices, but it's also a showcase for some of the most soulful guitar playing Slash would ever lay down.
