10 Most Underrated Indie Rock Albums Of All Time

9. Mourn - Self Worth

A young punk band from the fiercely political Catalonia scene, Mourn have knocked out four albums in six years that have demonstrated an impressive grip of form and evolution. Starting life as a moody post-punk act, by 2020’s Self Worth their sound had risen from the evocative sludge of old and into something crystal clear, rabble rousing, and often downright uplifting.

Opener “This Feeling Is Disgusting” sets the scene nicely: lush guitars backdrop the mantra of the song’s title, before diving into full gear pop punk. Mourn are at their playful best here, pulling the song to a halt time and again before launching back in, no doubt throwing plenty of writhing fans off balance at their live shows.

“Men” returns the band to the angrier, more combative works of previous albums, with intense, pounding drums and charismatic, intense vocals. For a band of their age, singing in their second language to boot, it’s no mean feat.

Four albums in, Mourn have demonstrated an unwillingness to stand still from release to release. If Self Worth isn’t necessarily their outright best record (and that’s really a matter of taste), it’s probably the finest introduction to a truly exciting group.
