10 Most Underrated Red Hot Chili Peppers Songs
6. The Power Of Equality - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
1991 was a hell of a year for any stripe of music fan. As the sounds of the '80s were quickly fading from view, we got served landmark albums from everyone from Van Halen to Nirvana to A Tribe Called Quest. What's even crazier is that Blood Sugar Sex Magik was able to be released on the same day as Nevermind and hold its own.
Putting the album into the CD player for the first time, The Power of Equality absolutely nails you over the head with its intensity. After a few years of trying to fill the void that Hillel left, Frusciante has finally found his groove on this song, going for his usual blend of Jimi Hendrix by way of James Brown with his guitar part. For all this song does right, it gave us something that we didn't know we needed: dynamics.
There's a good reason this was used as the introduction to the Peppers' newest sound, considering the beat switches several different times, to the point where you'd swear that the verse and chorus are coming from two different songs. Even when we strip things back for the final chorus, the whole thing segues perfectly into the next track If You Have to Ask. This would make for a great song to close things out, but for the Chilis, we are just getting started...so strap in!
