10 Most Unsung Heroes In Rock History

8. Jeff Beck

At the end of the '60s, it was getting hard to keep track of how many guitar legends were popping up. From Jimi Hendrix blowing minds on the psychedelic rock scene to the hard-edged blues that was coming from Jimmy Page, you almost needed to keep a scorecard of which innovators were putting their hands behind the fretboard. Even though plenty of guitarists have gotten their just due, Jeff Beck has always remained a bit enigmatic when put against his contemporaries.

Though Beck has certainly had his fair share of classics, you don't often see him being brought up alongside some of the other greats like Eric Clapton or even Jimmy Page. However, the people who normally understand the power behind Jeff Beck are normally six-stringers from days gone by. Compared to the pop and rock potential of his brethren, Beck has always remained a guitar player's guitar player, who takes all of the cool elements of the licks of old and brings it that one step forward.

Spanning the genres of soul, blues, and even fusion, many of Beck's licks have been studied by guitarists down the line, even crossing over into a hit when he co-wrote Superstition with Stevie Wonder. Though Beck seems quite comfortable where he is, if there was any justice in the world, he would have had the career that Clapton has right now.
