10 Music Artists Who Hated Their Own Success

3. Chris Brown

Chris Brown was already a double platinum artist when then-girlfriend Rihanna filed domestic abuse charges against him and made sure that the few people left on the planet who hadn€™t heard of the Virginian bad boy got a good look at his mugshot. Since then, Brown€™s career has continued on a similar path, his albums and concert tickets still selling by the truckload yet trouble always waiting in the wings to remind us that, actually, when it comes down to it, the petulant R&B prodigy is far more hassle than he€™s worth. Helpfully, Brown is starting to agree, stating to MTV that "fame and money" are at the root of his jealousy, anger and self-hate. He has also claimed on Twitter that he finds it difficult to continue in the music industry because the media won€™t let him forget his past mistakes, though following the domestic violence charge he was involved in numerous other violent altercations, one of which landed him with a year-long prison sentence extended for a violation of probation. Did his stretch in the slammer make the so-called reluctant celebrity wise up and learn his lesson? Of course not! Upon release, Brown ran straight to the media to complain about how difficult life behind bars is for a famous musician. Sigh.
