10 Music Artists Who Hated Their Own Success

4. Katy Perry

Pop starlet Katy Perry is notorious for whining about the travails of being rich and famous, having insisted more times than anyone is willing to count that she would be happier behind the scenes writing music without having to go onstage. This is, of course, the woman who married comedian, Hollywood actor and all-round motormouth Russell Brand, posed nude for fashion brand Moschino and once floated around concert venues on a harness strapped to a bunch of day-glo balloons, making her infamous assertion that €œfame is a disgusting by-product of what I do€ somewhat moot. But still. With three platinum albums in the bag (that€™s 11 million albums sold), the 31 year old revealed many of her true feelings about fame and fortune in the autobiographical documentary Part Of Me, in which she declared that €œI€™ll either go completely mental, completely bankrupt or have the best success of my life.€ When challenged about her attention-seeking behavior she took to Twitter to declare that her quotes on fame were "spoken in jest€, though having taken on many philanthropic causes in the last few years, from children€™s charities and animal cruelty initiatives to gay rights activism, it€™s possible that Perry€™s future really does lie away from the spotlight.
