10 Music Videos Banned By MTV

3. Mötley Crüe - Girls, Girls, Girls (1987)

If you want to get an idea of how debauched the '80s was, then listening Mötley Crüe is a pretty good way to start. There was just three things on their mind, girls, intoxicants and girls - laid out so eloquently in one of their best selling singles.

The song detailed the group's escapades as rock star cowboys: in place of horses they rode Harleys; in place of cattle they corralled strippers. It was all about cheap thrills and fast rides. The accompanying music video depicted the group lapping up what was on offer at one of the regular haunts, The Seventh Veil. The group preceded to get so wasted during the shoot they could barely stagger to their motorcycles after things wrapped.

The first cut submitted to MTV was outright rejected due to all the topless women parading about in every other shot. The channel refused to run it until a heavily edited version was provided - all this meant was cutting out a few nipples, however. Men dressed as women, dancing with hoovers was too much for MTV, but women dancing in thinly veiled lingerie was just fine... as long as you didn't show any areola.
