10 Music Videos That Changed Music Forever

3. Video Killed The Radio Star - The Buggles

Back in the early 80's, some TV producers hit upon an inspired idea. Since musicians were making loads of money off of touring, why not create an entire network centered around showing these artists in their top musical form? No one was sure what to think of, but it was worth a shot regardless.

Once MTV hit the airwaves, the first video for the Buggles "Video Killed the Radio Star" was just the right introduction to get viewers acclimatized to the new medium. The band's song was a futuristic look at what may lay ahead for music in the years to come.

What makes the video work is not for its bold technological feats, but for just how grimy it is. With the music video directors still trying to work out the bugs, each of the sets for these shots seem slightly dirty, as if you're getting it beamed in from a space station with a shoddy communication system. It was perfect for the video's aesthetic, which dealt with the visual medium overtaking the typical darlings of FM radio.

While still sounding like the future, "Video Killed The Radio Star" was a game-changer for the music industry that paved the way for one of the greatest musical voices on television.
