10 Musicians That Walked Away From HUGE Bands

5. Denny Seiwell - Wings

Any working musician in the early '70s would have probably given their life to be able to work with someone like Paul McCartney. As Macca was about to start his solo career with the album RAM though, he started to warm up to the idea of having a band mentality like he had with the Beatles, bringing in Denny Laine from the Moody Blues to work off of. And it looked like Denny Seiwell was pretty consistent behind the kit as well...for the time being.

After manning the skins on RAM, Seiwell fit in perfectly with Wings at first, having just the kind of restraint that reminded you of Ringo Starr's drumming, along with a fine attention to detail when it came to the studio. As the band went on, Denny started to feel more and more out of step with the group, which led to him walking out with guitarist Henry McCullough around the same time.

He wasn't exactly subtle about it either, with the band being all ready to make a trip down to Nigeria to make a new record when Seiwell announced that he was not going to be coming with them. Almost to get back at their fallen bandmates, Paul, Linda, and Denny managed to blow their critics out of the water with Band on the Run, which became one of the biggest highlights of their career. At this point, you just have to feel for Seiwell: quitting just before the real fireworks started.
