10 Musicians Who Almost Joined The Wrong Band
7. Zakk Wylde - Guns N Roses
The Mid 90's for Guns N Roses was a chaotic haze of ego for almost everyone involved. With Axl Rose leading the group with an iron hand, almost every original member jumped ship before the inevitable crash. Once star guitarist Slash walked out on the band, Rose wanted to find an equally competent guitarist to replace him.
Instead of trying to find an ideal candidate, Rose was looking for star power and got in touch with Ozzy Osbourne's six-stringed maniac Zakk Wylde to come down for a jam session. While Wylde has gone on to say that he had a lot of fun jamming with the band, much of the collaborations were no more than vague sketches at the time. By the time Wylde's services with the Prince of Darkness were required once again, Axl's stalling caused Zakk to quickly go back to his main gig.
Ironically enough, Wylde would strike out on his own with Black Label Society a few years down the road, leaving some to question why Guns N Roses couldn't call upon his guitar fireworks once again. While GNR fans had to wait many more years to get any new material from the band, an incarnation of the band with Zakk Wylde remains a fleeting fantasy for hard rockers.
