10 Musicians Who Died In 2020

9. Vera Lynn

The voice of World War II made it to the incredible age of 103 after a storied, dramatic career. Lynn began chiselling away at showbusiness as a young woman, with the odd radio performance to her name before the outbreak of the war in which she would play a notable part.

Lynn entertained the troops and those at home alike, firstly singing to Londoners in ad hoc air raid shelters, and later recording the song that would become her signature performance, “We’ll Meet Again”. The wistful tune saw Lynn voted the favourite musical performer of British servicemen, and her own radio show followed.

She continued to record post-war, and was given her own variety show which ran in the ‘60s and early ‘70s. She had the distinction of having an album go to #1 in the UK charts at age 92, and can boast of chart topping singles in the UK and US.

Lynn’s vocal stylings were employed once again by the UK during the pandemic, played over the Queen’s speech, and she found herself back in the charts following her death.
