1. Adele
Last but not least, we hear from the woman who stole our hearts - as in literally ripped them out and ran away with them when we heard her sophomore album '21' back in 2011. Adele is the undisputed queen of modern soul and has, in the space of just a few short years, become a household name the world over. With a big, gorgeous voice and apparently an even bigger spread of failed relationships to write songs about, our cockney sweetheart has no doubt supplied the soundtrack to pretty much every single breakup in the last two years. She's single-handedly proven that even the most normal people can make it - a message to girls the world over that you don't have to be all smiles and size 0 clothes and dinner party étiquette to achieve your dreams. But it's not all about the sad factor - well, actually, it sort of is. But it's the way Adele has shown to the world that in this age of iTunes and vocal enhancement and what have you, you don't have to fabricate emotions to write songs about them that people will relate to. She's helped to put that personal touch back into making music. It's about experiences, love, loss and redemption - she's the tragic songbird who captures perfectly the emotions we've all felt at some point in our lives. Realistically, we've all had a little cry with Adele at one moment or another, and that's what makes her a true diamond.
