10 New Artists That Prove Music Today Is Awesome

10. Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys Sheffield-born garage rock band Arctic Monkeys sparked an indie-rock revolution here in the UK back in 2003 with the release of their incredible début album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', and the aftershocks of that revolution have been felt all around the world in the 10 years since. They played an integral part in paving the way for young and aspiring rock bands to ascend that slippery slope to stardom in the dog-eat-dog world of the digital music age, and proved that you don't have to have been at it for years to get to (and stay at) the top. The signature northern twang of frontman/all-round God of modern indie rock Alex Turner has become a national treasure since the band rose to prominence and the band's witty, ingeniously tongue-in-cheek approach to songwriting, paired with the sheer danceability of their music, has made them modern icons. Their latest offering, this year's 'AM', has been hailed by many as one of the best albums of the year and has set the bar for new indie rock bands seriously high. They're that band that everyone wants to be - bringing you the kind of rock music that opens the door for you, but slaps your arse as you walk through it.
