10 Overlooked Extreme Metal Albums From 2013

7. Blood Mortized - The Demon, The Angel, The Disease (Chaos Records)

http://youtu.be/AFgHnJWxoh0 The Lowdown: The Old School Swedish Death Metal resurgence shows no signs of letting up as the old guard (Dismember-broken up, Entombed- no where close to the same band, Grave- limping along) fade. Listen, there's no doubt that of the current crop of retro bands playing this style, Entrails is one of, if not the top acts, and ended up on many year end lists with 2013's Raging Death. But a slew of bands released solid albums of the style including other bigger names like Demonical, some vets like Revel In Flesh and even a US upstart, Terminate-(more on them later). But buried under the plethora of releases was the second effort from Sweden's Blood Mortized on a tiny Mexican record label. Featuring folks that have served or currently serve in bands like Just Before Dawn, Grave, Malfeitor, and Amon Amarth it's no surprise how good this is. What is a surprise is how much better than the 'ho-hum', by the numbers debut it is, bolstered by one of the beefiest, mid-range productions of the year and some classic song writing, The Demon, The Angel, The Disease came really close to unseating Entrails as the genre kings. Recommended If You Like: Entombed, Dismember, Grave, Unleashed.

I am metal. I am so metal I ejaculate mercury. OK, love puppies, pro football and my daughter, so how's that for balance? I own a little metal blog called teethofthedivine.com and used to write for Metal Maniacs, Unrestrained magazines and currently help out with Hails and Horns and New Noise magazines. Yeah- I guess I am metal.
