10 Perfect '90s Rock Songs That Everyone Forgets About

6. Little Wonder - David Bowie

No one who was a hardcore Bowie fan in the mid '90s was really expecting him to settle into a groove or anything. The Starman's entire existence seemed to be based on taking creative risks, and it wasn't suddenly about to stop once he started to reach his middle age. The Let's Dance period in the '80s was long gone, and Bowie found his calling by going even more digital in the '90s.

Continuing off of the more industrialized sounds that he was creating on albums like Outside, Earthling is as much of an homage to a style of music as Young Americans was to Philly Soul back in the '70s, as Bowie tries on sounds from drum and bass music with the help of electronic artists of the day as well as rock musicians like Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Though Earthling is best taken in as a whole, Little Wonder is a great way to lead you into the rest of the record, taking the kind of glitchy production and putting it into a more pop themed context, as Bowie allowed his voice to glitch in different moments.

Coming off of some of the biggest pop successes in the decade before, Bowie still wasn't afraid to actually take a risk and see how it worked out. We were all entering a new era for technology, and it was only natural for the man who created Ziggy Stardust to add a little more computerized elements into his sound.
