10 Perfect Albums That Will Make You Love Hair Metal Music
5. Stay Hungry - Twisted Sister
Everything about the original hair metal scene was about taking everything to the extreme. You had to have the catchiest hooks on the Strip, the most stylish outfits you could pull together, and have enough product in your hair to make it look absolutely massive in every music video you could. Some makeup was going to make its way into the mix, so why not take everything to the nth degree?
Right as MTV was just starting to find its feet, Twisted Sister was the first band to really kick the door down for glam metal being a part of mainstream culture. Although they came from New York City, the kind of rough and tumble sounds of songs like We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock made for some of the most identifiable videos of the day, rebelling against the establishment whenever you could and rocking out with some of the most shocking rock and rollers this side of KISS.
While their original idea may have been to be the next generation of bands like the New York Dolls and Mott the Hoople, songs like the Price are the seeds of what hair metal would become, taking the glamorous touches of people like the Dolls and combining it with the smack in the face that you would get out of a Judas Priest or AC/DC record. We're far away from true glamour time here, but most of the Sunset Strip were definitely taking notes from this record a few years later.
