10 Perfect Band Members That Everyone Forgets About
4. Mick Thomson - Slipknot
The whole point behind Slipknot in the early days was that there wasn't going to be any band member that you would forget about. These were all just a bunch of maniacs out of the Midwest decked out in boiler suits, with no one even knowing the true identity of them behind those horrifying masks. Just because some of them embrace the spotlight though doesn't mean that they're responsible for all of the classic stuff.
Though Corey Taylor and Jim Root were already known for Stone Sour outside of Slipknot, Mick Thomson was the one giving the band that metal credibility. From the first record onward, Mick was always a metal fan first and foremost, focusing on the pummeling riffs and the kind of guitar playing that was a bit more flashy than what you were used to hearing in nu metal, almost like you were being given a shredder by way of someone like Johnny Winter.
And while Jim definitely has his fair share of great moments behind the fretboard, Mick was there from the beginning, penning the menacing guitar line that kicks off Eyeless and even going back to his old stomping grounds by contributing guitar parts to local death metal bands out of Iowa. Every band ends up changing a little bit as they grow older, but Mick seems to still be in the business because he just loves writing the most brutal riffs that he can imagine.
