10 Perfect Garage Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

2. Is This It - The Strokes (2001)

This album couldn't have sounded more unprofessionally produced if it tried. But that was its charm. The shambolic sound of the production coupled with the brilliant song writing solidified this as one of the greatest garage rock records of the 21st century.

The Strokes led the charge for a resurgence in indie and garage rock during the 2000s, and this was the album they used as a rallying cry. It was defined by catchy melodies, duelling, jaunty guitars and vocals that sounded like they were recorded in a cupboard. Tracks like Soma and Someday became the blueprint for acts like Vampire Weekend and Razorlight.

But Is This It's crowning glory was Last Nite. Although it was released at the start of the decade, it was the defining indie anthem for the entire 2000s. No doubt, if you were going through adolescence during this time, this was the track you stuck on - while you tried to squeeze into a tight pair of jeans and lace up your dirty white plimsoles - before hitting the park with the tinnies swiped from your parents' fridge.
