10 Perfect Hard Rock Albums Of The 1970s
8. Highway to Hell - AC/DC
The '70s were the prime time for bands to get a little more heavy than their counterparts. Since we had to deal with some of the more sugary brands of rock in the '60s, this was when we started to see the beginnings of heavier fare, with some of these acts getting labeled as the first metal bands.
Granted, AC/DC has always been straightforward rock and roll, and don't you ever forget it.
After being the pride of Australia on their first few albums, the real glory years start at Highway to Hell, with every single song having the potential to rip your head off. With original singer Bon Scott still in tow, every track feels like you have a boozy partner right by your side, looking to cause mayhem wherever you go, whether it's the wild car ride in the title track or the bar band swagger of songs like Walk All Over You.
At the same time, there are always going to be people who claim that something like this is a bit of a one trick pony. Even though there are bits and pieces of punk, hard rock and blues mixed into the scenario, what's the point if all of the songs sound the same? That's fair, but when you're able to pull it off this well, would you want to mess with the formula all that much?
