10 Perfect Hard Rock Power Trios
4. Green Day
As soon as the grunge wave started to hit it big, every other record label wanted 9 more of the same kind of band. Even if the band had no talent to begin with, you could find millions of acts getting industry buzz if the singer could have done a decent Eddie Vedder impression. Once the grunge wave abruptly died in 1994 though, a few loveable brats from California help us find our way back.
Although they've expanded to more than just a trio these days, Green Day were always at their best when they were a lean mean, punk machine back in the early days. Having just a handful of chords, BIllie Joe Armstrong managed to put together some of the most endearing earworms of the '90s, with over half of Dookie becoming ingrained in the psyche of fans to this day.
If you're looking for the raw musical chops though, both Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt are part of the greatest rhythm section in modern punk, from Mike's indelible bassline on Longview to the mammoth drum showcase Tre has at the very beginning of Burnout. With them topping themselves with American Idiot later down the line and still performing to this day, the guys in Green Day have never really shown signs of slowing down at all.
