10 Perfect Heavy Metal Songs To Listen To When You're Angry
6. Pantera - Mouth For War
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3JSbOt7CLo Out of all of the seething metal albums released during the 90's, Pantera's Vulgar Display Of Power stood out particularly for its sheer rage. It served as a precursor for what was to later come in the genre with angst filled lyrical screeches from frontman Phil Anselmo and monolithic guitar riffs courtesy of Dimebag Darrell peppering the landmark record. The album opener Mouth For War is case and point for this due to its refusal to let up throughout its duration. This exercise in brutality best demonstrates the trademark sound the band would continue to hone in later releases but fail to duplicate with the same vigor and originality on display here. The wonderful seesaw like riff that permeates the chorus is punctuated by on point drumming by Vinnie Paul, laying the gauntlet down for any newcomers who would dare challenge them. Anselmo is the real star on this one though with vessel bursting vocal velocity and deeply defiant declarations of revenge and independence. These cowboys from hell embrace their surroundings on this blistering opening track from Vulgar Display Of Power, one which is as strong and effective as it's lyrical content. Angriest Lyric: "I feel a conquering will down inside me, Strength, The strength of many to crush who might stop me".
