10 Perfect Metal Albums With ZERO Bad Songs

9. White Pony - Deftones

For most nu metal fans, the turn of the century starts to be where the authenticity of bands starts to clock out. While acts like Korn may have set the standard for what this kind of emotional style of metal could sound like, the jock jam makeover that it got on MTV led to stuff that was a lot more dated than you probably remember. In the thick of all the Limp Bizkits though, you had Deftones crafting a masterpiece with White Pony.

Before you even go into something like this, you should know that this isn't a record for the faint of heart. Compared to the usual tortured sounds of Korn or even the edgier side of Linkin Park, Chino Moreno's lyrics are downright terrifying in some circumstances, like the breakdown on Knife Party or the dark turn that comes at the last verse of Digital Bath.

Unlike other nu metal releases though, the entire appeal of this record is oddly soothing in a way. Nothing like this would be called ambient music or anything, but the shimmering sounds of some of the guitars definitely owe a credit to some post punk from a few years before. Regardless of its origin though, you're only going to get a band like Deftones who can make metal that sounds this pretty and caustic at the same time.
