10 Perfect Progressive Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

1. The Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd (1973)

This record has come to represent the absolute pinnacle of psychedelic prog rock. It explores, in equal part: musical texture, experimental melodies, universal subject matters and mind expanding sonic experiences.

Although, early tracks like Breathe and On The Run are somewhat ponderous exercises in avant-garde sound manipulation, they serve as the perfect introduction to the musical aesthetic that's to follow. Pretty soon, Time, breaks into a blues inspired guitar part ,that is all the more resonant, due to the strange ambient experimentation that precedes it. Pretty soon you're firmly situated in the experience of Clare Torry's vocal melodies on The Great Gig in the Sky, at this point you might as well surrender and let the enchantment of the album take you. After the upbeat jaunt that is, Money, the album continues to wash over you in waves of musical pleasure.

In-spite of the (at times very) experimental nature of this album it's undeniably and universally accessible. You could stick the record on at any point during its 42 minute run time, and you'll find something to enjoy, but there's only one way to listen to it - start to finish... , and LOUD.
