10 Perfect Progressive Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

6. Deep Fried Grandeur - Ryley Walker And Kikagaku Moyo (2021)

Prog rock, often conjures up images of long haired and moustached rockers from the '70s and '80s, but the genre is far from over. Earlier this year we were treated to a collaborative effort from Chicago's Ryley Walker and Tokyo psychedelic group, Kikagaku Moyo.

Ryley Walker, straddles an interesting line between psych rock, and indie folk with a remarkable aptitude. Kikagagku Moyo, on the other hand, are firmly rooted in psychedelic rock, incorporating instruments and melodies typically found on the Indian sub-continent. The result of their combined efforts has produced a deliciously vintage sound that conjures up images of the '70s rock scene all wrapped up in an eastern aesthetic.

The album opens with an 18 minute progressive arrangement, that weaves through a uniquely dream like soundscape. If the Doors had stuck around until the mid '90s and teamed up with Japanese group, Acid Mothers Temple, they wouldn't have made something half as atmospheric as this.

As you might expect from an album like this, things don't stay mellow for long. The second and only other song on the track is a swirling journey through all manor of world music influences. You can practically hear the acid dripping from the instruments.
