10 Perfect Rock Albums For Guitar Players

5. Blow By Blow - Jeff Beck

Throughout history, Jeff Beck has tended to pick up the reputation as your favorite guitar player's favorite guitar player. While he might not be notching up tons of hit singles onto the charts or anything, his style caters more to the musicians in the audience, wowing them with the right amount of tunefulness and insanity every time he picks up the six string. After slogging it out with the Yardbirds, all signs pointed to the world of fusion on Blow by Blow.

Going through this album, Beck's style focuses mainly on the melodic side of guitar, slipping in some of the most lyrical guitar melodies alongside his traditional lead stuff. Though the solos on Cause We've Ended As Lovers would have been a headscratcher for most of us to try, it wouldn't mean a thing if we didn't have the main guitar line to kick everything off beforehand. For Jeff, this isn't a matter of flashiness...it's a matter of feel.

You can spend hours trying to hone in on every single note that he plays on here, but none of that is going to matter if you don't have the emotion in your playing like this. Jeff Beck is where a lot of people get their guitar homework from, but the real test of this record is time. These are the kind of songs that can only come from a man who's had some years under his belt and knows his guitar like the back of his hand.
