10 Perfect Rock Albums Of The 1990s
1. Nevermind - Nirvana
Every so often, there's that one album that comes out and just sort of stops the clock. Even though the rest of the rock world may have been minding its own business, it's these albums that make every single person stand at attention to acknowledge its presence. Indie rock kids, metal kids, regular rock kids....no matter what you were into, you were into Nirvana at some point.
Off the strength of Nevermind, Kurt Cobain pretty much stomped out the rest of the '80s fluff in one blow, with songs that felt like the sound of the future. While songs like Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are may have been dead simple when you broke them down, it had something that none of the hair metal bands could hope for: authenticity. Like it or not, you couldn't argue that these guys were pissed and were willing to lay themselves on the line for their music.
Also, have you ever noticed how well records like this seem to fit alongside the sounds of today? Even taking to the modern rock playlists, you can still see Nirvana tracks popping up from time to time. It may have been 30 years since this album actually hit shelves, but the fact that it's still resonating let's you know the kind of artists we were working with here.
