10 Perfect Rock Albums Ruined By One Bad Song
8. Bugs - Pearl Jam
On most fans' first listens to Pearl Jam's Vitalogy, you wouldn't blame them for being highly concerned about their favorite band. Although tracks like Better Man and Spin the Black Circle have aged like fine wine in the grunge canon, there are moments on here that are far too experimental for anyone to take seriously. Though the riffs are still accounted for here, there is also the song Bugs, and I hope y'all like accordions.
Compared to the rest of the record, this is Eddie Vedder almost actively trying to turn off some of the fairweather fans of the group, writing an entire song around this beat up accordion that he found in a pawn shop. So what if it's a weird instrument though? If Weird Al can make it work, who's to say that Mr. Vedder can't? Well, that's until you look at the lyrics, which detail Eddie looking at Bugs in his room and wondering if he should eat them or follow in their footsteps.
It gets even weirder when the song was actually performed live. Yeah, aside from just being a bit of album filler, this was actually performed live a handful of times, with half of the crowd enjoying it and everyone else looking on in disgust. Even though some of the most eccentric artists have their weird moments, this is where you start to get genuinely worried about what Eddie's going through.
