10 Perfect Rock Music Songs Of The 2010s

8. Release The Hounds - The LaFontaines

Throughout their 15-year career, Scots rockers The LaFontaines have put out a raft of certified bangers spanning three EPs and three studio albums. But, despite supporting stadium-filling artists like YUNGBLUD and performing at festivals throughout the UK and across the globe, their indie roots mean a whole lot of people are still yet to tune into their sound.

The now-three piece have seen their modest share of success, with a UK top-40 album in 2019's Junior and a thoroughly unofficial anthem for Scotland's entry into the Euros in 2021, with a video that somehow stars a whole host of famous faces, including goalie David Marshall. While each of their records features its own slice of rock perfection, 2017's Common Problem delivers what might be the band's finest offering to the all-time rock playlist in our heads: Release the Hounds.

A powerhouse piece of cross-genre rock mined straight from the streets of Glasgow, the song is a little darker than some of their previous releases, but as with every LaFontaines track, it features a tongue-in-cheek tone and liberal use of the Lanarkshire accent. Folding treble-heavy guitar-driven rap verses and classic indie choruses into a four-minute head bobber, Release The Hounds makes an ideal pairing with shades and a cigarette.
