10 Perfect Rock Music Songs Of The 2010s
7. Neon Rust - Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes
Since his departure from punk rock outfit Gallows back in 2011, Frank Carter has been on a bit of a rollercoaster through the rock and metal genres, initially swinging towards a softer bluesy sound with Pure Love, then back to something more punk-influenced for his first Rattlesnakes album Blossom (2015), before settling into a more typical rock sound for the band's sophomore effort, Modern Ruin (2017).
While this 12-track album could easily fill every slot on this list, Neon Rust stands out as the go-to track, exemplifying everything that Carter and his Rattlesnakes collaborator Dean Richardson do well: spine-tingling crescendos and diminuendos, beautifully tortured lyrics and simple, earworm guitar melodies.
Capping a politically charged album, Neon Rust lies somewhere between a dirge and a hymn. Beginning downbeat and tender, it weaves in more guitar tracks throughout, becoming increasingly overdriven as it builds towards a punk rock-fuelled climax full of feedback and pain-stricken vocals. Lyrically, it's an ode to future generations facing a devastated, climate crisis landscape, and serves not only as an example of Carter and co.'s artistic prowess, but a salient message for all.
