Sure, all the hedonism, recklessness and rock star posing made them appealing, but ultimately there wasn't much substance to their music. Theatre Of Pain, was yet another album from his era, filled with rock tropes that became tired, fast. The band was eager to impress that rock was here to unshackle the world from the tedium of the 9 to 5. No other cause was as righteous as sticking to the man; and, the fastest way to do so, was by sporting leopard print pants and dating strippers.... Yawn.
But hidden within an album of tiresome postering, was nestled Home Sweet Home. It's one of the rare songs by Mötley Crüe which was actually decent. It reeks of all the aforementioned nonsense, the lyrics are cheesy, it's riddled with '80s piano, but, oh my does it strike a chord. Axl Rose might go on to create a monopoly on the power ballad, but this remains one of the greatest of that era.
