10 Perfect Rock Songs From 1971
9. LA Woman - The Doors
Once the '60s revolution died out, most of the psychedelic acts of the time had nowhere else to go. Since there was no one else who was willing to tune out and drop acid, most of the people trying to earn their living off of the Flower Children were sent packing to find dayjobs in the meantime. If you found your way to the other side, there was only one place to go: back to the blues.
During their later years, The Doors had gotten in touch with their bar band roots, with LA Woman being their last hoorah with Jim Morrison behind the mic. Though there was definitely some of their trademark darkness in between blues jams like Crawling King Snake, the title track encapsulates everything that made the Doors such a spectacle back in the '60s. Being another long cut, this is where Jim Morrison flexes his frontman muscles for the last time, talking about the seedy nature of LA before proclaiming himself as Mr. Mojo Risin.
The rest of the band are along for the ride as well, with everything laying back in the breakdown before slowly speeding up the tempo for what John Densmore referred to as a musical version of an orgasm. Other bands can try to make something raw and unhinged, but operating on a level like this is something that only the Doors can pull off.
