10 Perfect Rock Songs That Don't Have Any Lyrics

9. Switch 625 - Def Leppard

Of all the different offshoot genres to come out of metal, glam rock seems to be the least suited for the instrumental crowd. Since these guys were so concerned with image, it's a bit hard to find yourself on the radio and in magazines when you're not really saying much. Just before they became the staples of MTV though, Def Leppard had a a rockier past midway through High N Dry.

Coming right after their eventual smash Bringin on the Heartbreak, Switch 625 is a tour de force for Steve Clark and Pete Willis, each of them trading back licks and occasionally harmonizing with each other. Seeing how the band's sound was more in line with the styles of someone like AC/DC, this is the kind of controlled jamming that tells more of a story over the course of its runtime than just noodling around for the hell of it.

It also works as a fairly dramatic closing for the first half of the record, especially when you take into account what just happened on Heartbreak. Compared to the more melodramatic side of love that we just heard, this is the kind of dystopian sounding song that almost feels out of place, where we can practically see the walls falling down with every little guitar lick. Despite it never being popular on the radio, the band always plays this live right after Heartbreak. When you have something this special in your arsenal, it's too good not to show off.
