10 Perfect Rock Songs That Were INSANELY Controversial

1. Disasterpiece - Slipknot

Heavy metal has always been a bit of a tricky subject when it comes to censorship. Even though it's a little hard for the mainstream to stomach sometimes, every metal act is usually trying to have some fun when they play live, with everyone in the mosh pit trying to let their anger out in whatever way they can. It gets a little bit more complicated when someone dies though.

At the start of the '00s, Slipknot were one of the kings of the metal scene, having released one of the heaviest records in Iowa and actually getting it to appear near the top of the album charts. Though the music itself was already a harsh assault on your senses, things went a little too over the top with the song Disasterpiece, which got brought up in court during a murder trial.

According to the report, two kids had decided to kill one of their friends while singing the lyrics to this song, which left many to question whether or not Slipknot is being used as an endorsement for this kind of behavior. Slipknot have always refuted this though, with Corey Taylor saying that the band was meant to be an outlet for people to let out their aggression in a positive manner. As the man himself says, you might hear their music and use it as an excuse to do terrible things, but if your will is stronger, you can also use it to change the world around you.
