10 Perfect Rock Songs That Were Written By Someone Else
4. And I Love Her - The Beatles
Once the Beatles got into their signature groove of Beatlemania, John Lennon and Paul McCartney were writing songs faster than the band could even record them. In the wake of massive singles like She Loves You becoming the fastest selling songs at the time, they also had their hands in songs for their friends, penning A World Without Love for the duo Peter and Gordon and even offering up the song Bad to Me to Billy Kramer and the Dakotas. These may have been throwaways to them, but even some of their best work needed some touching up every now and again.
Going into their first film, A Hard Day's Night was going to be the first album that featured solely Lennon/McCartney songs, with Paul's And I Love Her being one of the shining moments in the film. After coming in with the basic skeleton of the song with Ringo Starr trading his drums for bongos, the biggest draw of the song actually came courtesy of George Harrison.
While McCartney's original idea was just a basic ballad with strummed chords behind it, Harrison was the one who suggested the acoustic riff that kicks off the song, which became the hook that led people into the track. Considering George was only making baby steps as a songwriter before this track, he seemed to already know what you can do when you put a riff in just the right place.
