10 Perfect Rock Songs Wasted On Terrible Albums

7. If You're Wondering - Weezer

Even for the most diehard of Weezer fans, there’s an underlying question that every fan discusses amongst themselves: when did the band start to suck? Weezer fans are more than willing to admit that there is some trash in the band’s catalog, but no one is really willing to meet in the middle and come to a consensus of when everything started. Regardless of when it happened, there’s a good chance no one was gearing up to defend Raditude when it came out.

Looking to break into the pop market, this is one of the most blatant attempts to cash in that a band has ever made, working with outside songwriters and making for an album that feels lopsided at best and treasonous at worst on songs like Can’t Stop Partying. It does start off at least a little bit strong though with If You’re Wondering, which is just a fun little pop tune that Rivers Cuomo wrote about meeting his wife for the first time. Seeing where Weezer were at the time, this almost swing style song is actually a decent look for them, lulling you into a comfortable groove for what the rest of the album is going to be.

Turns out that was a false sense of security though, with the album running out of steam on the next track I’m Your Daddy and never really picking it back up throughout the rest of the record, as the kings of nerd rock try to become the new hip pop stars of the late ‘00s. Raditude might be one of the worst albums that Weezer have ever made, but the fact that If You’re Wondering is good just makes the rest of the album look that much worse. You had the potential to make something good, so why did you think it was time to give Lil Wayne a guest verse on one of your songs?
