10 Perfect Supergroups In Rock History
6. Hollywood Vampires
Rock and roll is not exempt from a few casualties along the way. As fun as the lifestyle might seem for someone on the outside, there's a lot of ugliness that can happen when you get that much money, and the excess of drugs and alcohol has led to many legendary performers never seeing their twilight years. While Alice Cooper may have made it to the other side, the Hollywood Vampires was put together as a way to celebrate all of his dead drunk friends that he lost along the way.
Whereas most supergroups come together to just make a couple of tunes and see what happens, Hollywood Vampires was created more as a celebration of the golden age of rock and roll, with Alice bringing in anyone and everyone he could find to play a bunch of covers of classic rock and roll tunes. Although their first few records are comprised mainly of covers of legends like the Doors and David Bowie, the resume of every player on here is worth the price of admission, with members including Joe Perry, Joe Walsh, Paul McCartney, and Slash contributing to the songs.
While the members have fluctuated in the past few years because of everyone's scheduling conflicts, this isn't just some throwaway thing to them either. It took a long time for each of them to get to where they are today, and Hollywood Vampires is their chance to let all of those bad memories wash away and bring them back to playing the songs that got them to love rock and roll in the first place.
