10 Perfect Trip-Hop Albums With No Bad Songs
2. Black Sands - Bonobo (2010)
When English Dj Bonobo released his fourth studio album it became an instant classic in the world of trip-hop and new age electronica. The expanse of this album is massive, Bonobo managed to create a sound that matched, if not rivalled, the ambient scale of The Cinematic Orchestra.
This album is so rich with textured atmosphere that it's impossible not to slip away into a dreamscape of absolute bliss. The opening number utilises a string section to conjure up images of the Far East. It's rare that electronic music, and particularly trip-hop, conjures up images of nature. You're more likely to get a sense of a dystopian cityscape. But, with this record you're transported to the sounds of mountainous jungles, and surging oceans. The first number in particular feels like you're sinking to the bottom of some eastern ocean, filled with strange sea creatures, glowing in the dark with an other worldly quality.
The flow of this album is such, that although each track has a distinctive hook, they all transition from one to another with an unregistered fluidity.
