10 Pop Albums That Are Perfect From Front To Back
5. Tapestry - Carole King
The '60s were known as the golden age for the 2-minute pop song. From Motown greats like Smokey Robinson to the British Invasion going on in Europe, the listening public was being rocked with some of the catchiest melodies to grace your eardrums. In a world where there was a line between the writers of the songs and the powerhouses who delivered them, Carole King reached out from behind the curtain and brought out one of the greatest pop albums ever made.
At the time, no one really knew who Carole King was outside of her name credential. Her work with Gerry Goffin in New York City during the early '60s produced hits for acts as diverse as Aretha Franklin and James Taylor. With even praise coming from The Beatles, Carole King made Tapestry as a collection of some of her best work, whose tunes developed a certain omnipresence.
For all the new outlandish experiments happening left and right in the pop sphere, Tapestry feels like home, from the cheery strut of "I Feel the Earth Move" to the ache in "It's Too Late" that makes you want to crawl under a blanket and cry your eyes out. King already had a firm place in pop history, but the benefit of having one of the greatest collections of hits on one disc certainly didn't hurt either.
