10 Popular Songs That Are Actually Terrible

2. Journey - Don't Stop Believin'

Man, I feel sorry anyone old enough to have to suffer through this twice. Not only for the 1981 release on the album Escape, but ever since 2007 when The Sopranos (of all shows) used it in their series finale, everyone and their mum has done a cover of 'Don't Stop Believin''. The most notable example would be the cast of Glee in 2009, and no one wants the most notable example to be from Glee.

A uniquely structure song with the chorus played once at the end of the song, the formerly heart-warming dad rock song has since been turned into a drunk karaoke nightmare and has been covered by the likes of Steel Panther, Joe McElderry, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and perhaps most staggeringly of all, the housemates of the 2010 series of Big Brother. I'm not even sure how to process this but I feel more people need to know.

One of those songs where you need to be weary of what you say in everyday conversation, lest you entice someone nearby into surprise song, the song does have a feel-good back story with all members of the band down on their luck before fame finally hit, echoing the sentiments of keyboardist Jonathan Cain's father who frequently told him "don't stop believing or you're done, dude." The song is however geographically challenged; "...born and raised in South Detroit..." is impressive since South Detroit doesn't actually exist and is instead Canada.

Easy mistake though, we've all been there.
