10 Punk, Rock And Metal Bands You Need To Hear Right Now

5. Creeper

In 2020, Creeper are a difficult band to define.

The Southampton quintet started life as a straight-up horror punk band, delivering driving, punk rock songs with miserable lyrics in the vein of Alkaline Trio, The Misfits and AFI. Their 2017 debut, Eternity In Your Arms, was one of the best releases of that year.

But with sophomore effort "Sex, Death & The Infinite Void", Creeper have branched out in some very surprising directions, releasing a genre-defying album that mixes acoustic country ballads with 50s high school slow dances and Bowie-inspired pop bangers.

Songs like "Annabelle", "Cyanide" and "Poisoned Heart" are amongst the finest songs of 2020 and whilst they're completely different to anything Creeper have released previously, they still, somehow, manage to sound like the same band.

It's not just their sound that has evolved, though, and the band's entire look has changed to reflect this new musical direction with frontman Will Gould, in particular, transforming from a gothic punk into a spooky doo-wop crooner.

Creeper may be difficult to define, but they're an undeniably great band.
