10 Radio Friendly Songs About Dying

1. Queen - The Show Must Go On

It’s hard to listen to this song without welling up a little when you know just how ill Freddie Mercury was at the time of its recording. The legendary frontman was entering the final few months of his battle with AIDs in 1990, and was so unwell that he could barely walk. His bandmates weren’t even convinced that he had enough left in his locker to pull off the jaw-dropping vocals required to do the track justice.

Freddie being Freddie, however, proved them wrong in the only way he knew how, and knocked the bloody socks off it with one of his most iconic performances on record. The song is even more profound when you take into account its resolute mantra, and it almost feels as if Mercury is imploring his friends and his fans to carry on as best they can when his time does finally come.

Freddie would pass away in November 1991 at the age of 45, but stories like this are testament to just how special the natural born showman truly was.
