10 Radio Friendly Songs About Dying
4. Bleachers - Everybody Lost Somebody
Remember fun.? The band, not the concept, that is. The American trio kind of straddled the line between pop and accessible indie with a few big hits at the beginning of last decade, perhaps most notably the all-conquering We Are Young which, if I’m being honest with you, grates on me like nails on a chalkboard.
Well, fun. (the band, not the concept) have been on hiatus for quite some time now, but in their absence, lead guitarist Jack Antanoff has been producing some stellar work. As well as working closely with chart titans Lorde and Taylor Swift on some of their most popular recent hits, the New Jersey native has also been putting out his own brand of Springsteen-inspired arena pop rock under the moniker of Bleachers.
Two albums down, he continues to tread his own unique, highly engaging path, but arguably the most memorable song from his current project is the brilliant Everybody Lost Somebody. In it, Antanoff references, quite candidly, the death of his youngster sister when she was just 18 years old, and builds on that gut-wrenching tragedy to create something that is both relatable and strangely uplifting.
Spearheaded by an unforgettable saxophone line, Everybody Lost Somebody is that rarest of phenomena - a pop song with genuine heart
