9 Reasons To Love Arctic Monkeys

9. The Lyrics

arctic_monkeys_olympics Alex Turner is a man that starts his songs with "I heard the truth was built to bend" and "Well the morning was complete; and there were tears on the steering wheel, dripping on the seat". As well as the references to Shakespeare and John Cooper Clarke, he's shoehorned a brand of felt-tip pens into a song. And for a while, there was a rumour that Britpop god Jarvis Cocker was the man actually behind the Arctic Monkeys' wonderful way with words. Not only is Turner capable of the straight-facedly funny and the downright heartbreaking, he can write a twisted romance like no one can and situate it in the real world. He sees the cosmos from the bus stop, and he describes it with dazzling beauty; songs like 'Cornerstone', 'Only Ones Who Know', 'You Could Probably See For The Lights...' and 'Love Is A Laserquest' are pinned together with his knack for expression and rhythm, and when Alex throws a line up in the air, he catches it with a sumptuous rhyme like no one else.

If he wasn't bolstered by his three mates, he'd be a poet, there's no doubt about it. Alex Turner's words are the backbone to the band, the open door for you to dive into and absorb the musical goodness.
