10 Reasons Why The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal Was So Influential

5. Judas Priest And Motörhead - Veterans Of The Scene

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPjkWcNg9DU You may ask yourself if Judas Priest and Motörhead should be included in the NWOBHM and you'd be right to question their validity. Both bands are not a product of the NWOBHM, they both in fact preceded it; in the case of Priest by about five years! However, it is debatable if Priest and Motörhead would have gone on to achieve such massive success if it were not for the help and exposure the NWOBHM afforded them. Both bands were fairly well established with a few quality songs under their collective bullet belts but in 1980, when NWOBHM hit big, so did they....with iron fists! Motörhead dealt their Ace of Spades and Priest forged British Steel, both albums which absolutely nailed the formula each band was looking for and their timing was perfect. Their respective career-defining albums just needed exposure and suddenly the world's attention was focused on Britain and its new breed of feral Metal bands who were ready to dig their way out of the underground and claim their place in the light. Without the influence of the NWOBHM, Priest and Motörhead may never have achieved such success. This is purely conjecture of course but it does seem apparent that the NWOBHM as a sub-genre certainly gave Priest and Motörhead the impetus to leap light years ahead of the pack.

I love Heavy Metal, and generally anything that involves a guitar and loud noises, so I figured it was about time I put all the useless information in my head to good use and start writing a few things. Most of the time I'll be writing nonsense but occasionally I may surprise myself and appear half-way knowledgable.....but you can be the judge of that. Thanks for your fleeting attention!
