3. Junk of the Heart - The Kooks
The Kooks have had a strong following since their 2005 debut album,
Inside In/Inside Out and their 2008 follow-up album
Konk, most recognized for their hits "Naïve" and "Ooh La" from their debut album, and "Mr. Maker" and "Do You Wanna" from
Konk. Their third - and most recent - album,
Junk of the Heart (released in September of 2011) was not well received by critics, receiving average ratings from Allmusic, Spin, NME, and FMV Magazine. Despite not-so-favourable reviews from the critics, the album still managed to receive positive feedback from listeners around Europe and Canada. The album is a personal favourite of mine, and I consider myself a pretty strict critic. While I can understand some of the criticisms, I do believe this album deserves more respect for the growth and maturity that The Kooks express. They obviously developed from their angsty teen/garage band sound from
Inside In/Inside Out and
Konk, and it is a highly successful step in the right direction for the band of members who are now in their late 20s. Here's the fifth track off their album
Junk of the Heart, "F*ck the World Off." http://youtu.be/zJnwNZxBzh0
