10 Rock Albums That Killed Artists' Careers

4. Weathered - Creed

Every band is going to be in for a bit of a rough ride when coming off of a big release. Since everyone loved you when you were making the big hits, the pressure is on to have your next record be just as good or even better. If you have a divisive reputation in the music industry though, you're bound to run into some problems every now and again.

Given the wild excesses that Scott Stapp was up to during this time in Creed's career, it's no wonder that Weathered was the title for this record, with most of the band sounding burnt as hell and not wanting to be there. Hell, some of the band didn't even bother committing to the project, with bassist Brian Marshall not showing up and Mark Tremonti pulling double duty on bass and guitar on a few of the songs.

Though you do get some of that initial spark on songs like My Sacrifice, most of the album is padded out with a bit of filler that makes it sound like Stapp was trying to make something to pay off his mansion after the royalties for Human Clay dried up. Given that this was the last record before Creed's eventual breakup, it makes sense why the more exciting sounds from Alter Bridge were right around the corner.
