10 Rock Albums That Were Ruined By One Song
3. Seamus - Pink Floyd
It took a long time for Pink Floyd to transition into the band that we know them as today. After Syd Barrett had to be let go because of his mental struggles, the next few records saw the band in a state of limbo, going on weird avant garde projects like Ummagumma before starting to make more grandiose statements on albums like Atom Heart Mother. Meddle marks the moment where Pink Floyd started to turn a corner, but Seamus is all of those growing pains mixed into one song.
Just before you get to the epic sounds of Echoes, the first half of the record was already a pretty eclectic mix of tracks, going from Rolling Stones like bluesy cuts to tracks that had a much more laid back feel like San Tropez. While it sounds like Seamus is going to be following the exact same kind of bluesy feel, everything gets interrupted when you start to hear a dog barking in the background, taking up almost half of the song and getting in the way of the actual music.
This was only meant to be an experiment, but putting it next to a song like Echoes really cheapens it as well, showing both the light and the dark side of what happens when you experiment a little bit too much. The Dark Side of the Moon may have been just on the horizon, but this feels like a reject from something like Ummagumma that should have been left on the cutting room floor even in their psychedelic days.
